Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles due to insufficient safeguards in the Autosteer feature.

Tesla has issued a recall for more than 2 million vehicles, citing insufficient safeguards in the Autosteer feature that may lead to misuse.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, instances have been reported where drivers fail to maintain responsibility when Autosteer is engaged, impeding their ability to intervene promptly.

The recall encompasses Model S (2012-2023), Model X (2016-2023), Model 3 (2017-2023), and Model Y (2020-2023) vehicles equipped with all versions of Autosteer. Tesla plans to address the issue through a free over-the-air software update and will notify owners of the recall in February via a letter.

Tesla has already initiated the deployment of updates to affected vehicles, clarifying that neither the recall nor its remedy will disable Autosteer or associated features.

Instead, additional controls and alerts will be integrated to reinforce drivers' continuous responsibility, including maintaining hands on the steering wheel and staying attentive to the road.
